Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between smoking behavior of family members at home and the incidence of Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) in household occupants. ARI is a significant health problem, especially in children and the elderly, which is often caused by exposure to cigarette smoke in the home environment. This study used a cross-sectional survey method by taking samples from several households that have active smoking family members. Data were collected through a questionnaire that identified the frequency and intensity of smoking behavior and the incidence of ARI reported by respondents. The results showed a significant positive correlation between smoking behavior at home and an increase in the incidence of ARI. These findings indicate that exposure to cigarette smoke at home is an important risk factor for the occurrence of ARI. Therefore, interventions to reduce smoking behavior at home are very important to prevent ARI and improve the health quality of household occupants.
