Abstract

Plant Anatomy learning in the Biology Education Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Abulyatama is still predominantly theoretical, with limited laboratory practice due to inadequate laboratory facilities. Therefore, innovative alternative methods are needed to enable contextual learning in plant anatomy. This study aimed to examine students’ learning interest in the Plant Anatomy course through the implementation of a field-based plant grafting practice method. The study was conducted from January to February 2025 using a descriptive quantitative survey method involving 52 students as the total sample. Data were collected using a 4-point Likert-scale questionnaire based on five indicators of learning interest: enjoyment, interest, attention, motivation, and engagement. The results showed that students’ overall learning interest was categorized as very high (81.41%), with the average percentage for each indicator as follows: enjoyment (84.13%), interest (80.17%), attention (80.77%), motivation (80.41%), and engagement (81.61%). A significant improvement was observed across all indicators after the implementation of the grafting practice compared to conventional theoretical learning. In conclusion, students demonstrated a very high level of learning interest when the field-based plant grafting method was applied in the Plant Anatomy course, as it provided a contextual, practical, and meaningful learning experience
