Abstract

Research on sharia-based tourism has focused on tourist satisfaction-loyalty or regulatory effectiveness, while the educative function of destination management in transmitting Islamic values remains underexplored. This study examines community perception of the Pantan Terong tourism destination, Central Aceh, as evidence for sharia-based value education in destination management. A qualitative descriptive approach was used, with data collected via an online questionnaire from 81 respondents in Aceh, 60 (74.1%) who had visited Pantan Terong. The instrument was adapted from outdoor-recreation studies, Law No. 10/2009, and Qanun Aceh No. 8/2013, covering nine variables. Data were analyzed descriptively and interpreted through a value-education framework. Results show high positive perception across indicators (73.3%-100%), with Islamic values (92.5%) and environmental preservation (93.4%) highest after attractiveness (96.7%). Findings indicate Pantan Terong functions as a non-formal value-learning space instilling Islamic awareness, Gayo local wisdom, and environmental responsibility through visitors' experience. The study recommends strengthening managers' educative role through explicit interpretation of cultural and sharia values as a tourism-based value-education strategy in Aceh
