Abstract

This study aims to determine the development of students' mathematical reasoning abilities after being given structured assignments assisted by blogs. This study uses a mixed approach (quantitative and qualitative) with a population of all students of class X MAN 1 Aceh Barat and the sample is students of class X-MIA 3 Aceh Barat who were selected by random sampling. After the instrument was developed and validated for content and construct by experts, data were collected through tests, observations, and interviews with students. The collected data were analyzed through n-gain values for test results and analyzed qualitatively for interview results. The results of the study showed that the development and improvement of students' mathematical reasoning abilities were in the medium and low categories after being given structured assignments assisted by blogs. Of the 32 students, only 6 students were in the medium category and 26 students were in the low category. The results of interviews and observations showed that the development of mathematical reasoning abilities was good, although it had not yet met the four indicators of mathematical reasoning abilities. In solving problems, students directly used a mixed method, with the first stage of solving using the elimination method and then using the substitution method. When faced with a problem, students immediately search for the value of the unknown variable. The results of this study demonstrate the importance of training students to identify known and requested information and to choose the most appropriate solution method, rather than simply resorting to mixed methods without reason when solving every mathematical problem, especially in systems of linear equations. Students also need to be taught that they should not only focus on finding the value of the variable but also be able to think systematically and analytically in solving problems
