HUBUNGAN PENGETAHUAN PERAWAT TENTANG PEMASANGAN KATETER DENGAN KEJADIAN INFEKSI SALURAN KEMIH PADA PASIEN DI RUANGAN RAWAT RAUDHAH 2, 3, 4, 5 RSUDZA BANDA ACEH

Abstract

Abstract: Knowledge can strongly influence an action. An individual’s knowledge, attitude and behavior might be the critical factors in the individual’s decision-making. As medical workers, nurses are responsible for any condition of their patients. Urinary tract infection is one of nosocomial infections in any part of the urinary system, the kidneys, bladder, or urethra. This descriptive-correlational study was conducted in order to find out the correlation between variables with cross-sectional study approach in which the data of dependent and independent variables were collected simultaneously. Some of the population were chosen as the research samples by using the proportionate sampling technique with Slovin formula. The data were collected by distributing questionnaires as the instruments from March 15 until March 23, 2018. Those data were then analyzed by using univariate and bivariate data analyses. The results showed that there was a correlation between the nurses’ knowledge related to catheterization and the use of standard catheter in postoperative patients in Room Raudhah 2, 3, 4, and 5 of dr. Zainoel Abidin Regional Public Hospital in 2018 and the nurses’ knowledge related to washing hands (p-value = 0.000 < 0.05), the catheter care (p-value = 0.004 < 0.05), the use of catheterization equipment (p-value = 0.002 < 0.05), and the length of time in which a patient uses catheter (p-value = 0.007 < 0.05). Generally, it could be concluded that there was a correlation between the nurses’ knowledge related to catheterization and the occurence of urinary tract infections in postoperative patients in Room Raudhah 2, 3, 4, and 5 of dr. Zainoel Abidin Regional Public Hospital. Hence, the other nurses, such as those working in Room jeumpa 1, 2, 3, 4 are expected to use this study as a source of additional information
